“Where souls can refresh their life of prayer. The earliest text of the Passionist Rule called upon us to be Missionaries of Contemplation. The original monastery opened by St. Paul of the Cross was styled a “Retreat Center” and had rooms reserved for laity who could come to enter into deeper prayer. St. Paul of the Cross knew well the words of Jesus as he entered into His Passion: ’Keep watch with me.’ The closest companions of Jesus were invited to share His prayer and to seek God’s strength.
Today Passionists of Holy Cross Province have retreat centers in the United States, Japan, Korea and India where the people of God can seek to ’Know Christ and the fellowship of His sufferings, be made like to Him in death and experience the power of His resurrection.’
As souls refresh their life of prayer and contemplation, they share the experience of the converts of the Apostle Paul: ’…gazing with unveiled faces on the glory of the Lord, (they) are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit.’ (II Cor. 3: 18)”
